Did you know your tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body and contains a high percentage of minerals? These minerals provide enamel with the strength it needs to protect the teeth and help keep them looking bright and white This hard, outer surface layer of your teeth acts as a protection shield against your teeth. Being that the enamel is on the outside of your teeth, it is easy to damage it.

5 Ways to Keep Your Tooth Enamel Strong

Brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Be sure to brush twice a day to help reduce enamel wear.

Floss regularly. It’s important to floss regularly to help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. This helps keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Drink acidic beverages through a straw. Drinking through a straw helps push the liquid to the back of your mouth, and away from your teeth.

Hydrate with water. Drinking water helps rinse away dietary acids and is especially important if you have low saliva volume. Saliva helps to neutralize acidity and remineralize tooth enamel, so if you aren’t producing enough, your risk of acid erosion increases.

Reduce acid-rich foods. Having an acid-rich diet can put your tooth enamel at risk of acid erosion. As few as four acidic occasions throughout the day is all it takes. Surprisingly, some of our healthier food choices, like fruit, are highly acidic.
