4 Benefits of Straight Teeth for You [Updated 2020]

When people think of orthodontics, of course an enhanced smile is what most think of. Did you know orthodontic treatment does so much more than make our smiles straight? Orthodontic treatment helps correct abnormal bites such as an overbite or underbite. It helps us speak clearer and keeps our teeth cleaner. At Coleman Orthodontics, we can successfully correct most problems regardless of the patient’s age . Here are 4 benefits of having straight teeth. 1. Healthy Gums: Our gums say so much about our oral health and how we take care of our teeth. It's no secret the dangers of gum disease and the negative effect it has on your overall health. Gum disease can cause tooth decay and loss and bad breath. Improved Speech: Just like how we chew and bite, our teeth play a large role in the way we speak. Gapped or crowded teeth can affe...

Adult Orthodontic Treatment at Coleman Orthodontics

As we grow older, our teeth begin to shift and orthodontic treatment among adults is actually quite common in the United States. Five years ago in 2014, according to the American Association of Orthodontics, adults made up a record high of nearly 1.5 million orthodontics patients in the U.S. and Canada. That number has only grown in the most recent years, showing that adults are investing in their smiles. At Coleman Orthodontics, we treat a variety of patients from kids just starting treatment, teenagers and young adults, to adults who are looking to improve their smile. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and it is never too late to improve your smile. Our team works with all of our adult patients to achieve the adult patients' individual concerns. Many adults decide to choose Invisalign Clear Aligners, which are less invasive in a patient mouth. Clear aligners give adults the freedom to eat and drink with less restrictions than braces and aesthetically favorable becau...

Breathing Problems and Orthodontics

Does Your Child Have a Breathing Problem? Does your child breath loud and mostly through their mouth? Do they snore when they sleep? Do they have frequent sore throats, ear and nose infections or allergies and asthma? If so, your child may have a problem with the size of their airway. These are all common symptoms of children who have difficulty breathing because of airway problems. One of our main focuses when we examine children at Coleman Orthodontics , is their airway and breathing patterns. An airway can be partially blocked due to a deviated septum, large adenoids or tonsils or because of allergies. A small airway results in kids breathing more out of their mouths than their nose. This increased “mouth breathing” can cause the jaws to develop narrow and small which can then lead to severe crowding problems with the erupting teeth. Another problem often associated with breathing and airway challenges is sleep. Many kids who struggle to breath properly aren’t able to achieve...
