When to See an Orthodointist

Image
Coleman Orthodontics It seems like braces and teenagers go together like peanut butter and jelly. But did you know that children should really be seen by an Orthodontist as early as age seven for an evaluation ? Early diagnosis and treatment by Dr. Coleman can help guide facial development and tooth eruption, thereby preventing more serious problems from occurring later in your child's life. Treating children during early growth stages allows Dr. Coleman to achieve results that may not be possible once facial bones have fully developed. An early orthodontic examination does not always result in immediate treatment. A check-up may reveal that your child’s bite is fine. Or it may determine that early treatment is indicated to prevent or intercept more serious problems from developing. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only Dr. Coleman can detect. After evaluating your child, Dr. Coleman may simply want to monitor your child p...

HELP! My Braces Are Giving Me Bad Breath

Coleman Orthodontics We understand bad breath can be uncomfortable to talk about but unfortunately it happens to most people for several different reasons. The important thing to do if you’re experiencing bad breath (or know someone who is) is to determine the root of the problem.  Bad breath, or halitosis, can be caused by poor oral hygiene, personal habits such as smoking or eating certain foods, or medical problems. After getting braces, new patients may develop bad breath from not cleaning their teeth correctly. Brushing your teeth is simply not enough, especially when you wear braces. Bacteria feeds on food particles left in your mouth, and this bacterium creates odor. It’s important to remember to brush, floss, and use mouthwash as tiny bits of food can get stuck in brackets or between teeth which can contribute to bad bre...

While it may initially sound great to save money by purchasing your orthodontic treatment online without having to talk to anyone at all, the reality is… the money you save today may end up costing you thousands of dollars in future corrective action. Before you decide to proceed with a direct-to-consumer orthodontic company, Dr. Coleman , his team , and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) believe there are a number of factors and questions you may want to consider.  For example, in some instances direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies do not involve the in-person evaluation or the in-person supervision of your orthodontic treatment by an orthodontist. An in-person evaluat...
